In her role as Recreation Coordinator for Senior activities for Truckee-Donner Recreation & Park District, Susan was interacting with Sierra Senior Services staff on a regular basis; organizing trips, picnics, and other socialization opportunities for seniors in the community.
Susan joined the Sierra Senior Services Board and pooled community resources and contacts so that both her employer and SSS could offer more and better services to the senior population. Susan was also familiar with the Meals on Wheels program as a child.
Her mother was an RN, and one of her main volunteer activities was serving as a driver and volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program in Tucson, Arizona. She felt it was really important for caring people to deliver meals to people who are homebound, check on their welfare, and provide a link to the community for them. When Susan was looking around for organizations where she could make a difference as a volunteer, Sierra Senior Services stood out as serving an important role for people who really need help.
