Building Emergency Freeze Plan

1. This plan is to be implemented at any time freezing temperatures may occur and heat cannot be delivered to the building, either due to broken heater or

2. In the event of power outage, call TDPUD to determine potential duration of outage. If greater than 4 hours, implement plan.

3. There is a gas heater located in the corner of the community dining room that can be manually turned on. The switch is located in the upper right hand corner. If there is power the lights are by the main entrance and the switch for the fans is located on the wall behind the piano.

Items Needed For Implementation:

Keys to garage & kitchen are located in lock box outside the back kitchen door. SSS code given at board meeting on 6/2009. Staff that has keys to the entrance are Sarah, Sandi, Cande, Debbie & Clydine. David H also has a set of all keys for pancake breakfast. There is an extra set of all keys in the locked filing cabinet were petty cash is located.

Generator located in hallway – extra gas in the garage, call TDSA for entrance, 581-9422. Debbie is starting the generator every month to maintain the battery. Extra gas in the garage in cans marked SSS Lock box is SSS code. The extension cords and lights are currently located in the kitchen where the meals on wheels bags are stored.

Water shut-off – behind building in the rock garden. Key is located in water main under cement blocks in walkway outside.

You will need to have a flashlight to see to turn the main water off. This is located in the back of the building to the left of the double doors in the gravel area (in the winter it is marked by snow stakes)

Three onsite residents have been selected to notify Cheryl, Sarah, or Dave H. If an emergency should occur at the Truckee Donner Senior Apartments.

All members of the Sierra Senior Services Board must know how to implement this plan. Attached is the phone tree for people to be notified in the event of an emergency. If a board member is out of town another member, next in line will be asked to finish the call list. Work down the phone tree until you reach someone who is physically able to make the commitment

Turnnoff water to the building.

Open faucet to drain water from pipes. Faucets are in bathrooms and kitchen and laundry area.

Shut down ventilation system if not already completed and drain pipes. See manual in office or Sarah and Susan have copies off site.

Move generator to outside of east dining room door. Set it up as far away from the building as possible. Be sure generator is full of gas to begin with.

Extra gas located in garage – remember to relock the garage. The generator must be attended by a board member or employee while running.

Run extension cords from generator to (1) freezer and (1) refrigerator at a

Place a sign on the exteriors doors of building indicating closure of kitchen to the public – this must be enforced until the power comes back on. The kitchen cannot operate the stoves without power. Doors to refrigeration units must remain closed to keep everything cold.

Check the gas level every two hours when switching the cords to the next piece of equipment.

Keep all residents out of the kitchen area and hallway.

Freezers and refrigerators will be locked if it is the weekend or during a holiday period. You may move them they are all on wheels.
